Coldplay - A Rush Of Blood To The Head album coverTop 100 Favourite Albums From BBC Poll - today saw the announcement of the Top 100 albums as chosen by Radio 2 listeners.

The poll saw Coldplay take the top spot with their second album, A Rush Of Blood To The Head.

The results were given out during Jo Whiley’s Bank Holiday Monday show and saw Coldplay’s 2002 album just edge past Keane’s 2004 release Hopes and Fears.

The poll was the culmination of BBC’s recent season The Golden Age Of The Album which featured shows on BBC 4 and 6 Music as well Radio 2.

One set of tv shows that we would recommend watching if they are repeated is Danny Baker’s 3-part series The Great Album Showdown on BBC Four which featured celebrities as well as music insiders debating their choice of the top albums in the genres of rock, pop and R&B.

Two albums that might have been expected to be battling out for Number 1 place in this poll are Pink Floyd’s 1973 classic The Dark Side Of The Moon and The Beatles’ iconic 1967 release Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. Although these albums did make the Top 10 they could only manage 4th and 8th positions Coldplay - A Rush OF Blood To The Head Keane - Hope And Fears Duran Duran - Rio Pink Floyd - The Dark Side Of The Moon Dido - No Angel The Rolling Stones - Sticky Fingers The Pet Shop Boys - Actually The Beatles - Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band U2 - The Joshua Tree Queen - A Night At The Opera Fleetwood Mac - Rumours Led Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin IV The Police - Synchronicity Madonna - True Blue James Blunt - Back To Bedlam Bruce Springsteen - Born To Run Adele - 21 Oasis - Definitely Maybe Simon and Garfunkel - Bridge Over Troubled Water George Michael - Faith

respectively.

These sort of lists are always contentious as we doubt even Dido would agree that her album No Angel should place higher in the chart than Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.

Here is the list of the Top 20 albums as chosen by BBC listeners.
